Illnesses continue =(

Our second grade is still experiencing quite a lot of illness. We are cleaning our desks, washing hands, and keeping our pod door propped open so little hands do not need to keep touching the handle.

Remember, keep your child at home for 24 hours after they have last vomited, had a fever, or had diarrhea.

Thursday

Illness has hit second grade. We are cleaning desks and chairs. We are washing hands often. Also, I propped open our pod door so we do not have to touch the door handle, which I wash off each day.

Spelling test again on Friday for those who need to take it.

Reading Class: Test over, "Officer Buckle" on Friday.

We must have a nasty illness going around in the classroom because we started out our day with 5 boys out....one came in at noon, but then one left.

Spelling tests are tomorrow and Friday.

Reading Class: Our test over, "Officer Buckle and Gloria", will be on Friday!

Math: We will continue counting and using money in the next chapter.

Reading logs are due for everyone tomorrow!
Also, some of the students may need to take a spelling test tomorrow.

Math: We are counting different amounts of coins and drawing and counting coins from greatest to least value.

Reading: We are working on the story, "Officer Buckle and Gloria".

We welcome back a student in our classroom that moved away but is now back!!
Our homeroom is up to 25 students!

The down slide of January!

It's hard to believe we are on the down slide of January!

Reading: I will collect the anthologies tomorrow and pass out the second one! We will actually begin the work for "Officer Buckle and Gloria" tomorrow. This is a nice story to extend into two weeks.

Math: We are counting money and the students seem quite good at it! The students are bringing home a letter explaining about a timed test on basic facts they will be studying and taking.

The Mid-Ohio Food Bank will be at our school tomorrow.....all are welcome...bring your own bags!

Enjoy your long weekend!

Remember, no school tomorrow, Friday, January 13, for students. Also, no school on Monday, January 16, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Next week our homeroom will begin going to Art for the 3rd nine weeks grading period. Mrs. McKee is the art teacher.

Math: We began chapter 12 on money today. I encourage all students to count different amounts of coins as practice whenever possible!

Reading: On Tuesday, January 17, our reading class will begin the selection, "Officer Buckle and Gloria". My reading students are bringing home their list of spelling, vocabulary, and high frequency words today. But just in case that paper doesn't make it quite home......here they are:

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 12, is the last day of school for the students this week! No school on Friday for Teacher Workday!!!!

Math: We will take the nine weeks test in math tomorrow morning.

Our day was a great start to a new week! We are starting to read about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

There is no school for students this Friday, January 13.

No spelling this week for any second grade classes.

Reading: My reading class will be taking a test tomorrow, January 10, over the story, "Jamaica Louise James".

Math: We are now mixing up our 2-digit regrouping with addition and subtraction problems.

P.J. Day!

I think the kids had a lot of fun today wearing their p.j.'s to school today!

For those of you who can come for Literacy Night, it begins at 5:30 today!

Reading: Reading logs due tomorrow and 2nd spelling test. We will test over "Jamaica Louise James" on Tuesday, January 10. I had told you yesterday it would be next Wednesday, but has now been changed to Tuesday.

Math: Saxon homework!!!! We practiced column addition (adding 3 2-digit numbers).

Remember to remind your child to bring a pair of gloves and a headband or toboggan along with their winter coat each day!!!! Our playground is flat and windy!

Math: I totally forgot to give the math class homework last night.....so I am sending it home to do tonight! Sorry!

Happy New Year!

Happy 2012! Your child may be a bit tired after school today as we jumped right back into our normal routine of working hard!

Math: We have started chapter 11 which is adding and subtracting with 2-digit numbers...with and without regrouping!

Reading: Our spelling words for this week are: clean, keep, please, feel, we, be, eat, tree, mean, read, the, people, stream, see, steep. Our class has just started the story, "Jamaica Louise James". The high frequency words for this story are: believe, lady, whole. The vocabulary for this story is the following: booth, plaque, station, subway, token.

Reading Logs are due on Friday. We will have our spelling tests on Thursday and Friday!
