We will enjoy craft making and Christmas fun tomorrow in class!

2-M Math:  I have given the students a take-home test to complete and return either tomorrow or Monday.

Our 2nd grade Christmas parties will be tomorrow afternoon.  Please arrive at 1:50.

Music Program Night!

Tonight is our 2nd grade music program night!  Please have your child at the school at 6:00.  The program starts at 6:30 p.m.  Please have your child wear the t-shirt they are bringing home today that is in their book bag.  They can wear jeans with their t-shirts.

Our movie day is tomorrow morning.  We will be having a pizza party for lunch.

Monday

This will be a fun week as we prepare things for Christmas!

We are also trying to get everyone tested in MAPS for reading and math.

Our 2nd grade music program is tomorrow night at 6:30.

The class Christmas parties are this Friday starting at 1:50.

My reading class does not have spelling this week.

Monday

Our homeroom class will go to the Penguin Patch/Secret Santa shopping tomorrow at 1:45-2:15.  This is optional.  If you want your child to purchase items please send money with them tomorrow.

Reading Class:  My reading class will take a reading test tomorrow over the story, "How Chipmunk Got His Stripes."

Math Class:  We are practicing on subtracting with and without regrouping of 2-digit numbers.


MAPS testing for grade 2 starts Wednesday and runs through next Monday.

Monday

We are happy to be back to school after a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

My math class is working on subtraction and will start tomorrow with regrouping!!!!  Remember borrowing the one?  

Reading:  My 2-M reading class will have 14 spelling words that we will use this week and next.  The words are the following:

liked, using, riding, chased, spilled, making, closed, hoping, baked, hiding, standing, asked, mixed, sleeping

The spelling test will be on Wednesday, December 9 and Thursday, December 10.

Our field trip for grade 2 is this Friday!!!!

Tuesday

The Friendship Fruit letter went home yesterday....if you were asked to provide a canned fruit for next Tuesday you may send it in anytime!  If you were asked to send in a fresh fruit please wait until Monday or Tuesday to send it in.  Thank you!!

In math we are now at the end of chapter 4.  We will review tomorrow and test on Thursday.

In reading we are now on the story, "Super Storms."  Please have your child read this story at home for practice.  Our spelling words go along with this story and our test will be on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday

What a lovely assembly to celebrate our Veterans the school had today!!  Thank you to all who have served.

Our math class had a review lesson today on addition of 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping and rewriting the numbers.  Homework tonight is also a review!

Reading:  We had a our spelling test today and they were quite good!  Some will need to retake the test tomorrow.  Our test over "The Ugly Vegetables" is tomorrow.  The questions will be read to the students and they will be on their own to read the answer choices and make their selections.

Our reading class is also making vegetable soup tomorrow!  Yummy!

Literacy Night

Come to Literacy Night tonight at our school from 5:30-7:30!!!  Food, fun, and lots of games centered around words and stories for grades Preschool-2nd grade!

No school tomorrow in honor of Veterans Day.

Veterans Day program starts at 9:00 on Thursday at our school....everyone is invited.  Wear red, white, and blue.

Tuesday

Today is Election Day!  Don't forget to vote!

Picture re-take day is tomorrow for our school.

Remember that P-T conferences are Thursday evening and Friday morning.  Your child will not have school on Friday.

November is here!

It's hard to believe we are in November!  This month will fly by!

I sent home reminders today if I have a conference scheduled with you.

My reading class started the story, "The Ugly Vegetables" today.  We will spend all of this week and next week on this story. We will also have the same spelling list this week and next.  The words are:

This is a fun-filled week of multiple activities!!

Tonight is the annual Clarksburg Alumni Carnival in the gym.  If you are dressing up please be here by 6:30.  Enjoy!

The kids seemed happy to be back after the long weekend and eager to do their work!

My math class has just started chapter 3 on basic facts.

In reading my class will start all the work for "Teacher's Pet" on Monday.  We may spend up to a week and a half to two weeks on this story.

Progress Book is up and running for grade 2!!

I sent home letters to my homeroom, math class, and reading class about joining my "Remind" app to receive quick messages about class and school news.  Please return these by Tuesday.  If you lost your paper just send me your cell number and I will add you!

Last day of September

We will be excited for October to start tomorrow!

2-M Math Class:  Some students are still working on the chapter 2 test.  Therefore, your child has permission to bring a book from home to read during math tomorrow.  Of course, I have lots of good books for the kids to read, as well.  We will begin chapter 3 tomorrow or Friday....depending if everyone finishes the testing tomorrow!

2-M Reading Class:  We took 2 parts of the reading test today and will take the remaining 2 parts tomorrow.  The students will take the phonics and grammar parts on Thursday.  The kids also have a spelling test tomorrow and Friday.

Homeroom:  The kids are bringing home a slip about baseball sign-ups.

Cookie Dough Sale money is due Oct. 7.

Monday

Great news!!!!  Progress Book should be up and running now for all grade 2 classes!!!!!!  Check and see!  If you do not have access please send me a note and I will send home the form to fill out for a username and password for you to check your child's grades online!

My reading class and Mrs. Smith's reading class have the following spelling words this week:

My math class is bringing home a short note telling you that there will be a test over chapter 2 on Wednesday and that there will be no math homework on Wednesday and Thursday....this is just my math class!!

Thursday

Now that we are switching for reading and math it will be the teacher your child has for reading that will be sending the spelling words home with your child, starting tomorrow.

Also, we will not all be on the same schedule for reading tests.  2-G, 2-B, and 2-F will have their reading test tomorrow.  However, 2-M and 2-S will be taking the reading test over "Diary of a Spider" on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.

Hang in there with progress book.  Kinks are still being worked out.  I'm sorry.

Also, the prize poster will be sent home with all the students tomorrow in regards to the cookie dough fundraiser.  The prize posters were in all the teachers mailboxes at the end of today.

The last day of summer......

As we say good-bye to summer let's look forward to all the fun of fall and winter!

We will start switching classes for reading on Monday.  Your child has been put in a group that will best fit their reading and language needs.

Wednesday

We have a spelling test tomorrow over long a and long i words.

Your child is bringing home their reading textbook.  Please have them practice reading aloud the stry, "Dogs."

There will be a PTO meeting on September 21.

School pictures are October 6.  As soon as I get the picture forms I will send them home!

Thank you to all the grandparents who came to 2nd grade Grandparents Day!

Remember, I have jury duty all of September.  I have to call in again tonight.  I will be glad when this is over!

Tuesday

The students worked very hard today on their math MAP testing.  I was very pleased on how the results turned out.

No math homework this week!  Also, no new spelling words.

We will be ready for a reading test over, "My Family" either Thursday or Friday.

Grandparents Day in grade 2 is tomorrow!!!  The time is 9-10.

I have jury duty the month of September and have to call in the next two evenings to see if I have to report.

Friday!

I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend!  I have jury duty for the month of September.  I was called to come in this past Wednesday and Thursday and seated.  Hopefully, I will not be out of the classroom the rest of the month, but in case I am you will know it is for jury duty.

We started a new reading story today called, "My Family."  Please encourage your child to read this story to you at least 2 or 3 times this week and discuss it!

Math homework is starting today for our class, as well.  As of right now we will have math homework on Mondays and Wednesdays.  It is due back to school the following day.  Please assist your child, if needed, in completing the homework.

It's Football Friday Night!  Our Warriors are in action in Greenfield!

Lots of runny noses and sneezes have hit our class.  It is that time of year for allergies and sinus  issues.  If your child takes allergy medicine please make sure they are taking it regularly.

Thursday

Our first spelling test of the year went really well today!  There are a few students who will get the opportunity to re-take the test.  No problem!  That is what second chances are for!

Until 2nd grade has completed online MAPS testing we will not be able to post grades on Progress Book.  I will write down grades the old-fashioned way and will put them on Progress Book as soon as I can!

The kids have done a narrative writing this week on something special someone has given them.  Our focus was on using the words first, next, and last.

I am happy to come to school each morning and work with the children!

Tomorrow is Friday so it's Adena Warriors day!!!  Wear blue!

Hump Day!

It's Hump Day!  
Tomorrow will be our first spelling test of the school year!  The kids are bringing home a wordfind with the spelling words on it.  If you have misplaced your list of words use the wordfind to study from!

The students are also bringing home a little book called, "We Camp."  I am asking the students to please read this book to you and it is theirs to keep!!

I am really enjoying the students....we are having a lovely beginning!

Sorry I haven't blogged in a few days....things get busy!!

Your child should have brought home their new reading textbook last night.  I hope you can sit aside a few minutes each night or at least 3 nights per week to have your child read out of this book.  We are on the first story, "Henry and Mudge."  The spelling words this week go along with this story.

Our spelling tests are on Thursdays and Fridays!!

First day for the teacher!

I am glad to be back at school after taking my son to college for the first time yesterday!!!

I am learning the name of each student and hope I can remember them again tomorrow!

We will be sending spelling words home tomorrow that will be used next week.

Tuesday

The class was given an Art Blizzard Bag from Mrs. McKee today.  There are three short Art assignments for the students to complete and return to school.  The students have a total of 2 weeks to complete these assignments.  Please have your child put their name on each page of Art work.

Blizzard Bag 2 and 3

Blizzard Bag number 2 went home Friday....however, for the students who are dismissed at 2:55 that Blizzard Bag is going home today.  Blizzard Bag number 3 is going home today.  From the date of each bag given out the students have a total of 2 weeks to complete the work and turn in back in.  It would be most helpful if you could have your child return the work in the assigned bag.

Class picture day is tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24!!

Blizzard Bags

Our elementary has now been notified to send home blizzard bags.  The first of three blizzard bags was sent home today.  There are two assignments for this bag.  One is to read a part of a story and finish it how the student thinks it might finish.  The second assignment is to add or subtract each story problem.  Please write the answer in number form and then tell weather you add or subtract.

Blizzard bag number two will be sent on Friday and blizzard bag number three will be sent next Monday.  The students has a total of 2 weeks to turn in the finished blizzard bag from the date it was assigned.

Blizzard bag number 1 is due back on Wednesday, April 1, or before.

Reading test tomorrow!

Our class will be taking a reading test over the story, "Brothers and Sisters" tomorrow, Friday, March 13.

Please check your child's spelling test to see if they will need to retake the test.

We have been outside for recess two days in a row and it has been WONDERFUL!!!!

March 3

Our school will be having a planned 2-hour delay for staff in-service tomorrow, Wednesday, March 4.

Thursday

Tomorrow is Mrs. Johnson's last day of work and then she will be retired.  We wish her well after teaching for 35 years.  She has been a good friend and would always stop to help whenever needed.

Flat Stanley

Please send in the names and addresses of the 2 different people/and or groups  your child wants to send their Flat Stanley project to!!

It would be ideal if everyone gets to mail their envelopes by Thursday, March 5.

Spelling test tomorrow is over our Flat Stanley words!!

We're back!!!!!!!!!!!

It's good to be back after our snowy week, last week.

Not one kid complained today about working....I think they were ready for it!!

We will start a "Flat Stanley" project tomorrow!  I already have the mailboxes stuffed with information.

100th Day!

What a fun day we had celebrating 100 days of coming to school!!!!  Please ask your child about all the fun activities we did and about all the different neat items the kids brought in to represent 100.

Our new story in the reading book is called, "The Great Ball Game."  Please have your child read this for practice at home.

It's February!

It's hard to believe that February has already arrived.  

We are now working on money in math.  Please have your child count different amounts of combinations of pennies, nickels, and dimes.

Please have your child return their library book, as tomorrow our class visits the library.

Wednesday

Please take some time this evening and fill out the address booklet for the recent PTO fundraiser.  Please return the completed booklet to school with your child tomorrow.

We will be having a spelling test over the 10 words tomorrow.

Our class will be having a test tomorrow over the story, "Officer Buckle and Gloria."

Please have your child do their math homework (one problem) and return it tomorrow. 

It is always a good idea to read aloud for the Reading Log and to study Rocket math facts!!

Happy New Year!!  It was such a nice day!  The kids seemed happy to be back and we eased back into a good routine.  Art is our new special for the 3rd nine weeks.
