Please remind your child to try and have the best behavior they can.  Sometimes around the holidays the excitement can cause a bit of hyperactivity and a bit of a lack in manners and respect.

Please turn in your child's movie permission slip sometime this week!!!!

Wow!  The kids are a bit excitable!  It is probably due to the rainy weather and not being able to get outside for recess.  Hopefully the weather will clean out by next week.

I am sending home a lot of information about our last week of school before Christmas break....about the class party and the class book exchange.  Please look for this information in your child's take-home folder.

Spelling test tomorrow!!!!

Our class will be taking a spelling test tomorrow.  

The students should be practicing the story, "Jamaica Louise James" at home this week.

There were only 11 students that turned in their math homework this morning.  We have math homework each Tuesday and Thursday.

Reading logs are due every Friday.  The Friday before Thanksgiving there were only 9 students in our class who turned in a reading log.

We're Back!

It's good to be back after Thanksgiving break and to think about Christmas!!!  What a fun 3 weeks this will be!  

Tomorrow we will begin the last story in our first anthology.

We have been reading 2 Thanksgiving plays in the classroom!!!  The kids are really enjoying it.  It is so good to break routine and do something different.

I hope everyone having Veterans Day off!  I had the kids write about what they did yesterday.  

You will be getting your child's progress report on Friday.  Remember, the grades reflected on the progress report will be what their average was today at about 10:30 a.m.

The class will be having a math test tomorrow over the addition of 2-digit numbers.  I am sending home a study guide to review with your child.  We went over this chapter today in class.

State Bound!

We are proud of our Adena Warriors Volleyball team!!  They are playing in the state semi-finals today at 6:00.  No homework tonight!!!!!!

Mr. Snyder informed us this morning that parent-teacher conference request slips have been mailed home.  When you get the information please let me know if you will be able to attend!

Your child is bringing home a paper reminding you about the Halloween party and hallway parade.  Please do not let your child wear their costume to school tomorrow.  The students should bring their costumes in their book bags.

In honor of Red Ribbon week the students can donate$.50 to Pennies for Patients and wear a hat to school tomorrow!!!

We have had a  very pleasant Friday!  As I conducted running records with the students they worked on making bus driver appreciation cards, a spider, and a cat head!

Book Fair is next week from M-Th. Our class will be going to the Book Fair on Monday from 12:30-1:00.

The students enjoyed the red ribbon assembly today.  Due to not having but 15 minutes of our special I was not able to organize our math homework tonight.  Therefore, there is no math homework tonight!  Enjoy the night off.

Tomorrow, Thursday, October 23, begins our Red Ribbon Week when we discuss ways to stay drug-free in our lives.  We are asking all our Elementary students to wear red tomorrow!!!!

Fire Prevention Week

This week is Fire Prevention Week.

Our field trip yesterday was so nice!  We made thank-you cards for the local business that paid for the trip!

We are looking forward to our field trip tomorrow!!  Please remind your child to bring a sack lunch along with a drink.  Dress for the weather and old shoes are recommended!!!  Parents please arrive to school with your child, if you are going with us, or shortly after!!!  If you are driving behind the bus please take note the buses may be at the side or behind the school.

The class will be very busy tomorrow taking a math test over chapter 2 on numbers to 100, taking a reading test over, "Henry and Mudge", and celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday!!

We will be going on a field trip next Wednesday.  A letter explaining the field trip is being brought home by the 2nd grade students today.  There is no cost for the students, but there will be for the parents who want to go.

We say good-bye to summer today.  

We have started a new theme in the reading book.  Our next three stories will all be about nature.  Our first story is, "Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night."

I will be out tomorrow.  Mr. Jones will be the substitute.  I will be back on Wednesday!

Fall will arrive next week!  I am glad the weather is still nice to say good-bye to summer.

Our spelling tests are going very well.  I am proud of the students and how well they prepare for the tests.

We will be taking a test over the last silly story, "Mrs. Brown" tomorrow.

The students are bringing home their mid-chapter 2 test in math.

September is half over!

It's hard to believe September is now at the half-way mark.  Time is going way too fast!

We had an awesome time today discussing apple seeds and eating apples!!  We saved the seeds and the kids are bringing home a neat experiment to conduct in your refrigerator!  Don't worry, it is not messy!

Our reading story out of the anthology is "Mrs. Brown Went to Town."

September 11

We have a wonderful Grandparent's Day today!!!  Please tell your parents a big thanks for coming today.  The students enjoyed it so much!!!!

Hump Day!!

We released two beautiful Monarch butterflies today!!!  They took flight instantly!!!!  The kids absolutely loved seeing the butterflies fly away.

Grandparent's Day for grade 2 is tomorrow form 10:00-11:00 a.m.

The students are bringing home their reading test today from "Dragon."  I read the entire test to them for this first test.

Spelling again tomorrow for anyone who missed one or more.  

Frequent bathroom breaks are given throughout each school day.  I never deny a student from going to the bathroom when they ask.

The bus passes have changed.  They are now in a set of three sheets.  Top copy stays in the office, second sheet goes to the bus driver.  The third sheet goes home with the student.

It's kind of nice to think we are already in the middle of our work week!

I hope all of you are finding you are getting into a good school routine.  A set bedtime, meal time, homework time, etc. can be key to success!!

The students did a fine job today taking their spelling test!  If a student missed one or more words they will get a second chance to take the test again tomorrow!!

Our oral reading of "Dragon Gets By" went very well today!!

The class enjoyed making a paper sunflower today.  We will let them dry today and bring them home tomorrow.  We enjoyed talking about seed scattering.

Tomorrow the reading log is due back for the first time!!!!

We had our first fire drill of the year today.  I am very proud of how well our second graders exited the building and got in line in the correct area.

Thank you for making sure your child did their homework and turned it in.  I had only 1 student who left it in their folder, at school, by mistake.

We began the story, "Dragon Gets By" today.  Your child has been encouraged to bring home their anthology and practice that story with you!!

Tonight is our first night for math homework.  I have stamped the homework paper front/back.  Please have your child to complete the assignment at home and return to school tomorrow.

I am sending home a reminder about reading logs today.  The reading log is due at the end of each week.

The International Sunflower Festival will be having a Variety Show this Sunday at 6:30 p.m.  If any students would like to showcase their talents they are bringing home a paper about that, too!

Another good day was on tap for second graders!!  The next two days we will be giving pre-assessments in reading and math.

Thank you for so many of you who have sent back emergency medical forms and other necessary beginning of school forms.

The students can bring a water bottle to school.  I encourage them to drink a lot due to helping with hydration and energy levels.

This first grading period our class has P.E. each day and Library every Tuesday.

1st day of school!!

What a fantastic day of school we had!!  All 20 students were here and we had fun!!!!!
No homework this week for the students!  However, parents, you have homework!  Please fill out all the papers from Open House and return them as soon as possible.  I also sent home a copy of who has signed up for morning snack so far.  If the rest of you could sign up or possibly sign up a second time that would be great!!!!

The Night Before School!

Well, we are now in the night before school starts!!  We all get nervous and excited!  I forgot to mention in my letter you received at Open House that all the students in our class are welcome to bring a water bottle to school and enjoy drinking out of it throughout the day.  I like to drink a lot of water and I encourage your children to do the same!  This policy is in place all year!  
Well, let's all try and get some rest tonight so we are reading to go tomorrow!!

I am excited for Open House tonight!  I will attend my daughter's Freshmen orientation at 5:45, but will arrive in our classroom ASAP!!

I have our room ready......I hope the rest of the 2-M Family is ready, too!!!

Thursday

Field Day yesterday was a ton of fun!!!  A big thanks for all who came to help!

We will have a pizza party next Wednesday for our lunch.  The students are asked to bring in $2.00.

Our weather is chilly today.  Check the forecast out for tomorrow to see if your child should wear long pants and a jacket.

If you would like to have your child's  grade card mailed at the end of the year please send in a self-addressed stamped envelope.

The students will be taking their last selection assessment tomorrow over the reading story, "The School Mural."

Our walking field trip is Friday.  The students do not need to bring a lunch, as the PTO has paid for their lunch at the Dairy Cone.  Thank you Adena PTO!!!!!

There are no new spelling words this week.  We have finished our lists for the year.

We will be taking the test over, "The School Mural", on Wednesday.

Walking Field Trip for grade 2 is this Friday.  However, since it is a walking field trip it will be weather permitting!

Our visiting authors/illustrators will be here in 2 weeks!!

So hard to believe we are looking at just 19 short days left of school.  Time is going by too fast!

Our spelling words this week have the endings of -ed and -ing.

Our class will be taking a test over "Moses Goes to a Concert" tomorrow, Tuesday, April 29.

If any girl is going to stay for basketball camp this week please send in a note each day she will be staying.

We were informed that Wednesday, May 14, will be the Field Day for K-1-2.  If you can possibly come help out that day or even part of the day I know it will be appreciated!

Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

We have 15 new spelling words this week with the focus of the long i sound.

Our class is also working out of the anthology this week and practicing the selection, "Moses Goes to a Concert".  Please have your child practice reading this story at home this week.

The students will be taking a math test over data (information) tomorrow.  The homework tonight is a review of chapter 10.

Wednesday

The spelling review test will be tomorrow.  There are 12 review spelling words.

We will begin chapter 10 in math tomorrow over Data.  The students will be working with graphs and chart and finding information.

Please look for the Adena Baseball order form in your child's folder today.

The PTO Easter Egg Hunt is this weekend on Saturday, April 12, at 11:30 A.M.  

Monday

I just received word we will have a menu change for April 15.  On Tax Day our lunch will be ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, applesauce, roll, ice cream, and milk.  It sounds like our "Easter" lunch.

Also, the date for grade 2 Field Day is Friday, May 16.  This date will also be Field Day for grades K and 1.  I am sure our PTO would appreciate any and all volunteers on this day!!

We are taking a pause in the anthology and reading out of a chapter book. Each student has a copy of the book, but the books will stay at school and are not for home.

Also, next week our reading work will be from a chapter book.  We will be using multiple copies of the book "Reading Races" to read and write about in class.  So it will be after Easter before we work in the anthology again.

Happy April First!!

I always think March, April and May are three of the fastest months in the year.  April has arrived beautifully and I hope you aren't "fooled" today!!!

The kids went to the Book Fair during their Library time today.  If your child would like to visit the Book Fair on Wednesday or Thursday, please send money with them and I will make sure they get to shop.

I ran off a copy of a centimeter ruler for the students to use to complete their math homework tonight.

It is still very cold and will be for the next day or two....please make sure your child wears their winter coat to school!

P/T conferences this Thursday evening and Friday morning....no school for students on Friday.

1st day of Spring!

We are so happy to welcome the arrival of Spring!!!!

There will not be a Waiver Day for Staff at Adena on Monday, March 31.  We will use this day as a make-up day.  Please send your child to school on this day!!!!!  However, there will be an early dismissal on this day.  The students will be released at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, March 31.

Tuesday

We enjoyed St. Patrick's Day yesterday and are looking forward to the first day of Spring on Thursday!

We are measuring in math and I am sending a paper ruler home with each student to complete their homework tonight.

The 3rd 9 weeks grading period ends tomorrow.

The new "special" will be music with Mrs. Cox.  This class will begin on Thursday.  We will continue to have Library on Tuesdays, as well.

Tuesday

Our class has now completed chapter 7 in math and reviewed the chapter today.  We will be taking a test over money and time tomorrow.  Your child is bringing home a practice review paper.  Please review the skills as you see necessary for tomorrow's test.

With Spring weather on its way please dress your child in layers of clothing.  Sometimes it's cool in the morning and they need a jacket and then it warms up in the afternoon and short sleeves is enough.  I spoke to the class today about keeping a hoodie in their book bags just in case it is needed.

Thank you for letting the office know prior to 2:00 P.M. if your child needs a different dismissal plan.

Monday

Our lunch menu has a change for tomorrow.  The lunch will be chicken noodle soup instead of chili.

Book-In-A-Bag homework tonight.

Our phonics and spelling focus for this week is /y/ at the end words that make an /e/ sound.

We have now completed our math lessons on time and money.  We will review both concepts tomorrow and have a test over chapter 7 on Wednesday.  

Hump Day!

The Book-In-A-Bag tonight is a book written by your child.  Please enjoy reading and admiring the illustrations they have worked on for the last 2 days.  They originally thought of 4 or 5 things they like and started the writing process from there.  Please sign it just like you would any other book!!

We are working on time to the five minutes in math.

The kids had the state-wide tornado drill today.  Things went well.

It's March!!

It's so nice to say we are in the month of March now!  Our weather can be very versatile, but this month brings Spring!!

Our math homework tonight it on telling time to the hour and the half-hour.

Class Picture day will be next Wednesday, March 5.  I was given the forms today, but they did not get in students' mailboxes.  I am very sorry for this.  I have now put them in their mailboxes after school and they will get them first thing tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday

This past Saturday was such a nice taste of what is to come this Spring!!!!  We are all so ready.

However, we need to keep wearing socks and bringing coats to school.  Our playground is quite chilly and the wind blows EVERYDAY!

Our reading test over, "Brothers and Sisters" will be tomorrow, Tuesday, February 25.
Our new spelling words are contractions....with the exception of 2 of them. 

Thursday

It's so hard to believe that it is already the 20th of February!  Time truly flies!

The class is working on money in math.  I need the students to learn the value of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters, and combinations of those.  The best practice is real-life experience.  Please get a small handful of coins and have your child practice counting the money.  Have them start with the greatest value of coin first and go down to the lowest value.

The class has homework tonight on counting money.

Another spelling test tomorrow.

Enjoy the warmer temperatures and be mindful of any areas where it is prone to flood.

Wednesday

The students are bringing home their Progress Reports.  Remember that the grade on the Progress Report is a reflection of what your child's grade was last Friday when I had to submit the grades.  As I put in grades in the computer your child's grade changes.

If your child says they got wet at recess they are probably right!  With all of the melting snow and ice our playground is a bit soggy.

It was so good to put in a full day of school!  I bet everyone sleeps good tonight!

It will be a fun week leading up to two class birthdays and Valentine's Day!!  We hope the weather cooperates and we can be in school all week!  Routine is good and we all need it!

Your child is bringing home Blizzard Bag work for day 2 and 3.  The students have 2 full weeks to complete this work.  Blizzard Bag day 2 and 3 work is due on Thursday, February 13.  Please make sure that your child's name is on each page of their work.

We're Back!!

Wow!  What a week of cold weather, snow, and no electric!  It's good to be back!

I am sending home a "Blizzard Bag" of school work for students to complete in case they were not able to print the information off the computer.  Each student has a total of 2 full weeks to complete the Blizzard Bag assignments.  All Blizzard Bag day 1 work is due back on February 6.  Mrs. McKee has also given our class an Art assignment to complete.  The students are bringing this home, as well.

Grade Cards

Apparently the grade cards are not being sent home today.  I have heard it will be on Tuesday, January 21, when grade cards will be sent home.
