Last day of September

It's hard to believe that September has come to an end.  We will welcome October tomorrow!

Our new story out of the reading anthology is, "Exploring Parks with Ranger Dockett".  Please have your child practice this selection often throughout the week.  When your child does bring their reading book home please have them return it to school the next day.

Picture day is this Thursday.

Johnny Appleseed's birthday

Johnny Appleseed, an American legend, was born on this date in 1774.  We remembered this figure in history by reading 2 books about his life.

Mr. Butler send home with the students an exercise pyramid journal that is due back on Monday.

The students are bringing home a form about the variety of packages and prices of school pictures, which will be taken next Thursday.

Tuesday

The students have math homework tonight.  Please assist your child, if needed.  This math series is very challenging. Please review all work that comes home.  

As a parent I know how easy it can be to be distracted in the evenings with "things".  Please make your child's school work a top priority.  Your family may need to reassess the after-school activities to allow plenty of time to devote to school work.  You will never regret time spent with your child in aiding their education.

Monday

Autumn began yesterday and it certainly felt like it today!  For days when the weather is cool of a morning it is a good idea to send your child to school with a lightweight jacket or hoodie.  

We switched seating areas today.  I like to do this once per month.

Library is tomorrow....please return your library book.

TGIF......but a farewell to summer =(

I am a summer person.  I am sad to see that season end, but it will come again!  Sunday is the first day of Fall.

Your child is bringing home their 2-M News and a list of new spelling words for next week (we are back to the standard 15 words).

It has been a hot day.....and a full moon.....both can make people cranky and a bit out of sorts.

Thursday

I need the bottom slip of all the progress reports signed and returned to school.  Thanks!!

We started a new story today.  The story is "Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night".  Please have your child practice this story over the next week.

Tuesday

The students have math homework tonight.  Please make sure they complete the front and the back and return it to school tomorrow.

There is a menu change for Wednesday and Friday.  The students are bringing home a little slip with the change.

Monday

It's hard to believer September is now half over.  PTO fundraising forms and money are due!  If you forgot to send in your child's cookie dough order please do so tomorrow!

PTO meeting tonight at 6:00.  Use the back entrance and it will be in the first room on the right.

We have 25 review spelling words this week!!

TGIF!!!

Happy Friday!!!  Hopefully you and your family can enjoy being outside this weekend with the pleasant temperatures!

Our spelling list for next week is a review list of 25 words.  Your child is bringing home this list today.

We will continue the story, "Mrs. Brown Went to Town" for a couple of more days next week.  After that we will begin Theme 2.

Our math has us working on counting 100's, 10's and 1's.  Please review your child's work each day.  Reinforcement at home is key to a child's success!!

Thursday

It was a great Thursday!  It started raining during noon recess and the kids had to come in for their first "indoor" recess.  They loved playing with all the things I have for such occasions!!

Math homework tonight....please return tomorrow.

Spelling test on Friday for those who need to take it.

September 11

We honored September 11 by observing a moment of silence.

There will be a spelling test tomorrow.

We are reading "Mrs. Brown Went to Town".  Please have your child practice reading this story at home.

Tuesday

The students are finally bringing home the snack sign-up sheet for the school year.  Sorry it's taken me so long to get it organized and ran off for you!!!

Our class has P.E. the entire first 9 weeks grading period.  It would be ideal if the students could wear gym shoes each day.

School picture day for K-5 will be Thursday, October 3.  More info. about this will be sent home in time.

Monday

Our Grandparent's Day was very nice today and well attended.  

Our spelling words this week focus on long i and long a.

We will begin a new story tomorrow called, "Mrs. Brown Went To Town".

Our 1st chapter in math is now complete and we will begin chapter 2 tomorrow called, "Numbers to 1,000".

The weather forecast is saying in the 90's for the next few days.....I recommend dressing your child is comfortable, cool, lightweight clothes.  Remember, the students are welcome to bring a water bottle to class!!

TGIF!!!

Grandparent's Day for grade 2 will be on Monday from 9-10.  
The students are bringing home a new spelling list!!  Our story next week will be "Mrs. Brown Went to Town".

In math we are working on numbers to 1,000.  The students are reading, writing, and identifying these numbers.  Please help your child by looking over all the work they bring home.

There will be another spelling test tomorrow for those students who may need to take it.

Grandparents Day will be on Monday, September 9, for grade 2.

Hump Day!

Thank you to all of you who had your child do their math homework last night, put their name on it, and returned it today to school!!!!  Give yourself a pat on the back.  This will be the routine each Tuesday and Thursday evening.  

Since today is Wednesday your child will be getting a new book-in-a-bag to bring home and read 3 times.  Books-in-a-bag will be given each M-W-F.

The new progress book code information is being send home today, as well.

We are reading and working on the new story, "Julius".  Please have your child read this out of their reading book this week.

Tuesday

The students will be bringing home their first math homework page today.  It is stamped front and back "homework".  Please have them do the work and return it to school tomorrow.  They may need a reminder to put their name on their paper!
