It's hard to believe there are only 8 days left until Christmas!!!
The students will be taking the test over, "Jamaica Louise James", tomorrow, Wednesday, December 18.  Those who need to retake the spelling test from today will be able to do tomorrow, as well.

I am sending home a paper with reminders about the rest of this week.

No homework the rest of this week, other than reviewing for the reading and spelling test tomorrow.

Tomorrow is our movie day!!!  The kids are beyond excited to see "Frozen".

Our spelling test will be on Monday and Tuesday over the words for the story, "Jamaica Louise James".  

The reading test over this story will be either Wednesday or Thursday.

We continue to work really hard on subtraction with and without regrouping.  Please review this at home with your child.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!

Our spelling words next week will be 12 review words.

Our selection in the anthology, "Big Bushy Mustache", will continue into next week.  We will probably test over it on Wednesday.  I would like to spend Thursday and Friday on reading poems and answering questions about the poems.

In the event bad weather would occur overnight and school would not be in session tomorrow, we will have our Friendship fruit on Tuesday of next week.

Sorry!  I made a mistake in yesterday's blog......The "Funflatable" paper that was sent home yesterday was not a permission slip......it was simply a slip to ask for volunteers to monitor the students while they are playing on the funflatables!!!  Sorry, my bad!

The students are bringing home a little box and letter that tells about a program called, "Pennies For Patients".

We got to attend an assembly this morning sponsored by the American Red Cross on the importance of blood donation.  There will be a blood drive here at our school soon.  Your child will be bringing home information about it.  The hours of the blood drive are in the evening.

Lots of our students got a 100% on spelling today!!!!!  Only a few need to take it again tomorrow.

Remember, there is no school on Friday!!!  Maybe you can enjoy the Circleville Pumpkin Show or the Bainbridge Fall Festival of Leaves.

Cookie dough pick up from the PTO fundraiser will be on Wednesday, October 16, in the Rubber Gym, at the school, from 3:00-6:00 p.m.  Cookie dough will not be sent home on the bus.  If your child sold cookie dough you must pick it up at the school on this date.

Johnny Appleseed's birthday

Johnny Appleseed, an American legend, was born on this date in 1774.  We remembered this figure in history by reading 2 books about his life.

Mr. Butler send home with the students an exercise pyramid journal that is due back on Monday.

The students are bringing home a form about the variety of packages and prices of school pictures, which will be taken next Thursday.

As a parent I know how easy it can be to be distracted in the evenings with "things".  Please make your child's school work a top priority.  Your family may need to reassess the after-school activities to allow plenty of time to devote to school work.  You will never regret time spent with your child in aiding their education.

Autumn began yesterday and it certainly felt like it today!  For days when the weather is cool of a morning it is a good idea to send your child to school with a lightweight jacket or hoodie.

The students are finally bringing home the snack sign-up sheet for the school year.  Sorry it's taken me so long to get it organized and ran off for you!!!

Our class has P.E. the entire first 9 weeks grading period.  It would be ideal if the students could wear gym shoes each day.

Our Grandparent's Day was very nice today and well attended.  

Our spelling words this week focus on long i and long a.

We will begin a new story tomorrow called, "Mrs. Brown Went To Town".

Our 1st chapter in math is now complete and we will begin chapter 2 tomorrow called, "Numbers to 1,000".

The weather forecast is saying in the 90's for the next few days.....I recommend dressing your child is comfortable, cool, lightweight clothes.  Remember, the students are welcome to bring a water bottle to class!!

Hump Day!

Thank you to all of you who had your child do their math homework last night, put their name on it, and returned it today to school!!!!  Give yourself a pat on the back.  This will be the routine each Tuesday and Thursday evening.  

Since today is Wednesday your child will be getting a new book-in-a-bag to bring home and read 3 times.  Books-in-a-bag will be given each M-W-F.

Please have your child read the story, "Dragon Gets By" out of their reading anthology (reading book).  We have learned the necessary skills and strategies necessary for them to be fluent readers with this story.  Also discuss the pictures and what is happening in the story with your child.

In math we are learning about odd and even.  Please go over your child's math papers.  We have a new math series this year called "Go Math".  

Since it is such a hot week I am encouraging the kids to bring a water bottle to class.  They are welcome to sip on it throughout the day.

Our first spelling test will be Thursday.  I will say the word, use it in a sentence, and repeat the word.

TGIF!

It will be good for everyone to have a break this weekend!  The students were given their reading book today.  We also call this book the anthology.  We will actually start using this book on Monday.  If your child brings it home this weekend you can simply enjoy looking through it with them.  I have not taught them the lesson that goes with the beginning of the first story yet.  I will teach this lesson on Monday and continue it throughout the week.  We will read in order of stories so the first will be, "Dragon Gets By".

Also, the students are bringing home their first "Book-In-A-Bag".  The directions are located in the bags!!

Our second day of school was as good as the first!!!!  We have P.E. the entire first nine weeks grading period.  If you have not filled out and sent back the emergency medical form please do so as soon as possible!!

I gave the kids a worksheet on reading a poem and writing a few words tonight at home.  Please have them complete this and bring back tomorrow!

We have started our Flat Stanley project!!  Many of the kids brought in names and addresses of those they want to send their Flat Stanley's to!!!!  We wrote our rough drafts today and will make our final copies tomorrow.

We will not start work in the anthology until later in the week.

In math we will begin measurement using non-standard and standard units of measure.

Sickness has hit our class hard.  We had four absent today with two going home not feeling well.

Our class is now studying money in math.  The best review you can give your child is by having them count out various small amounts of coins.  We have now learned the value of the half-dollar, quarter, dime, nickle, and penny.  We have also learned how to count money in various groups.  The more real-life experience the students have with this the better they can count money.  

The temperatures are to drop back to the twenties by Thursday!!!!
