Our homeroom class has Secret Santa shopping tomorrow at 2:15.

We will be going to the movies on Friday afternoon!! Please send back the permission slip as soon as possible.

Good-Bye November!

It's so hard to believe that today is the last day in November! Oh, well, bring on December!!!

The weather was quite brisk on the playground today. With winter weather fast approaching please send your child to school with a coat, headband or toboggan, and gloves or mittens. The fresh air does us all good to go outside and we are only out for 15 minutes two times per day. If we are all properly covered up then we stay comfortable.

Tomorrow will be a spelling test for our students and reading logs are due on Friday.

Math: Our class had a review lesson today due to me going to two different meetings right before Thanksgiving.....so we reviewed today what I had last taught them! Homework tonight!

Tonight is a PTO Meeting at 6:00. All are welcome to attend!!

I have had to be out of the classroom the last two days in the afternoon due to meetings.

Tomorrow we will be making our Friendship Fruit in homeroom.

Tomorrow evening our Kindergarten Parent's Club will be having their annual Card Party starting at 6:00 p.m. It is always a great time!

Tomorrow, Friday, November 18, is Team Jersey Day!!!!! Come wearing your favorite t-shirt, sweatshirt, or actual jersey of your favorite team!!!

The students will also be attending an assembly at 2:00 tomorrow to top off our Bully/Drug-Free Week!

There will be a spelling test tomorrow for any students who need to take it.

Math: We have just started regrouping with 2-digit subtraction.

Veteran's Day

What a lovely Veteran's Day assembly our school had today! The children were so well-behaved!

Remember, parent-teacher conferences are being conducted this evening and tomorrow morning. No school for students tomorrow!

Our Warrior Volleyball team will be playing in the state final 4 tomorrow at 2:00.

No school on Friday for Veteran's Day!

The Adena Athletic Boosters will sponsor their 30th annual Turkey-Noodle Dinner this Sunday here at the school!

November Has Arrived!

It's hard to believe we're in the 11th month of the year!

This week is a bit unique with our second graders taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Today the kids took the reading and language part of the test and tomorrow will be math.

The Mid-Ohio Food bank will be at our school tomorrow from 2:30-3:00. Come and get some free fruits and veggies! All are welcome!

I appreciate all of your support as you help your child each day with their reading and math. I look back now on my own kids' progress with their school work and realize how important those young formative years truly were! Reading 10-15 minutes each night is so valuable and you will never regret the time spent reading to your child or having your child read to you! Give yourself a pat on the back for being a good parent!

Reading class: Our class has started the story, "Around the Pond: Whose Been Here?". We will pause for the next two days in reading due to giving the Iowa Test of Basic Skills.

Math: The students will be taking a test tomorrow over regrouping. A study guide is being sent home.

Pre-sale football tickets go on sale tomorrow here at school. The cost is $7.00. At the gate the cost is $9.00.

There will be a Pep Rally for the football team on Thursday, November 3, in the high school gymnasium.

Party Day!

What a fun and exciting day it is at school today with our hallway parade and parties coming this afternoon!

Next Tuesday, November 1, at 2:15 our second grade will be having an Awards Assembly to honor any student who got perfect attendance the first grading period. Also, all A's and all A's and B's will be honored for the first nine weeks.

Report cards go home today. Please sign the envelope and return it to school on Monday.

Trick-or-Treat Night!

We're having a fun and wild day while looking forward to trick-or-treating tonight in Concord and Deerfield Townships!

Our Halloween parties will be tomorrow with the annual hallway parade for K-1-2 starting shortly after 2:00. Our classroom parties will follow the parade in the hallway.

If your child wants to bring their costume to school tomorrow we request the costume is in their book bag and not worn to school.

Spelling tests will be given again tomorrow!

Math: We are working with regrouping.

2-M Reading: We are now reading the story, "Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night". Please have your child practice this story with you at least 3 nights per week.

Homeroom: We are talking about ways to prevent fires from ever starting. The students will be designing a fire prevention poster on Friday for a local contest.

Today is the first day of Fall and it seems rather fitting that the weather is cook and a bit rainy.

Our field trip is next Friday. If any of you would like to go with us and ride the bus just let me know! Right now I have only one parent riding the bus with us. I realize many of you will probably follow along in your own vehicles, which is totally ok, too!!!

It is so important that your child's bookbag and folder be looked through each evening. Please remove their papers and only return the ones that may need to go back to their homeroom, reading, or math teacher. Also, please have your child read to you each school night. Doing this simple, but important skill will truly set the tone for their school career!

Tomorrow is also the first day of Fall....I am not a Fall person....I love the Spring and Summer...can't help it!

Homework begins!

Second Grade Homework: Starting tonight your child will have math homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The homework is the back of the Saxon math worksheet. Please have your child complete the homework side and return it to school tomorrow. The students will give their math homework to their math teacher.

Reading homework: Each school night we are asking your child to read 15 minutes each night and for you to fill out their reading log for each night they read. The reading logs are due each Friday. Your child will give their reading log to their reading teacher!

Grandparents Day for Grade 2 is next Monday, September 12. Your child is bringing home a letter about Grandparents Day today!

Our class is observing a monarch!

Our classroom is currently observing a monarch caterpillar in its chrysalis stage. I believe it will emerge into a beautiful butterfly sometime this week!

All of our second grade students have their first spelling list! We are all using the same first list!

Tomorrow we start switching classes for reading and math.

We celebrated Grant's 8th birthday today!!!!

The students are bringing home their first spelling list for next week. There is no homework with this list....just have your child study as you feel necessary. The first test will be Thursday. If a child gets 100% then they do not have to take the test on Friday. If a child misses one or more words on Thursday they get a second chance to take the test again on Friday.

The First Day is Here!!!!

Wow! What an awesome start we are off to on our first day of school!!! A big thanks to those who got to come to Open House last night! It was a delight to meet you.

The kids all have got to read to me one-on-one....we have some very good readers in the class! We've read some really fun "Beginning of School" books and even completed a basic adding sheet!

Let's all get a good night sleep tonight so we can be ready for tomorrow!!!!

The Room Is All Ready!

Hello All! I've spent the last three days in professional development classes here at Adena. I am ready to meet you all next Tuesday at Open House!!

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

I am getting our classroom ready for a new group of second graders!!!! Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, August 23, at 6:00 P.M.

I hope to meet some of you before then! If you see me at the Ross County Fair and know who I am, please come up and introduce yourself to me!!!

End of the year!

What a wonderful school year we have just completed. I will miss my students, but they are ready for 3rd grade! Have a wonderful summer everyone!

Grade 2 Field Day-Wednesday

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 18, is grade 2 field day.

Weather permitting we will be down at the high school track. If so, please make sure your child brings a sack lunch, wears tennis shoes, and dresses to be outside all day.

If it is raining our plan for field day is to be in the gym!

Either way, Mr. Cox could use parents as helpers!!

10 days left!

Wow! We only have 10 days left, after today, of school! Time flies by!!

On Wednesday, May 18, our second graders will be having field day. We are to dress in Adena colors, wear tennis shoes, and bring a sack lunch!

A Short Week!

This week we are in school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. No spelling words this week or reading logs needing to be turned in! Our test over the reading selection, "the Art Lesson" is tomorrow, Tuesday, April 19. In math we will begin adding with and without regrouping 3-digit numbers. Progress Reports will come on on Wednesday for the last grading period.....hard to believe!

A New Student!

Tomorrow we welcome a new student to our classroom! We will now have 20 students. P-T Conf. are this Thursday....... The new windows are very nice!!!!!

New Windows!

We get our new windows in our classroom today! We will go into Mrs. Bryans' room while the workers are replacing the old with the new. The second grade awards assembly will be tomorrow, Tuesday, March 29, at 2:15.

Tornado Drill Today!

Our drill for the state-tornado drill went great! The kids conducted themselves very as we practiced what to do in the event of threatening weather.

We would love for you to come to the school library next Tuesday, March 29, for our next levy meeting. We need your support of the school levy and appreciate your vote!

Friday

We will resume our normal class schedule now that the nine weeks testing is over. My reading class is currently working on the story, "Carousel". Our spelling words next week will be words ending with /y/ that have a long e sound.

For any interested there will be a levy meeting here at the school at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Wow! What a day it has been! We started off this morning with some yummy green treats from Grandma Denise and topped off the afternoon with frosty Sharmrock Shakes!

What a week it's been for illness in second grade. I hope for health for everyone next week!

Sickness has hit second grade!

Our second grade is being hit quite hard right now with a variety of illnesses. Please take every precaution to protect your children from becoming sick. Enforce proper hand washing, bathing, etc. at home.

I am making sure each desk is cleaned each day, along with the pencil sharpener, the door knobs to our room, and both sides of the pod door.

This week and next week =)

This week our reading class has finished up the story "Jalapeno Bagels" and took a test today. We have no new spelling words for this week or next. The remainder of this week and next Monday will be spent in reviewing concepts and skills for our 9 weeks reading test next Tuesday, March 15.

In math we are studying about measurement. We will soon start measurement of capacity in cups, pints, quarts, etc. Our math 9 weeks test will be next Wednesday, March 16.

My reading class will be having their test over the story "Jalapeno Bagels" on Tuesday.

Let's dress "Wacky" tomorrow to celebrate the birthday of the late-Dr. Seuss!

Wacky Wednesday is a name of a book written by Dr. Seuss!

One stormy night!

The kids may want to head to bed early tonight after the wild and stormy night we had!

We will celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss on Wednesday, March 2. The kids can dress "wacky" for this "Wacky Wednesday"....not only the birthday of Dr. Seuss, but the name of one of his books! No face or hair paint please!

Normally, my math class does not have homework on Wednesdays. However, due to being out yesterday for snow I am assigning a Saxon Homework page for the students to complete and return to me tomorrow. I'm quite sure they can do this with ease.

Spelling tests-Thursday and Friday

My reading class will be having a reading test over "The Great Ball Game" on Friday.

This week!

This week in reading we are working on the selection, "The Great Ball Game". We are also working with words that have the long o spelled /oa and ow/.

In Math we are taking a test over using money on Tuesday. We will then move on to telling time.

On Friday, February 11, our school will have an early dismissal at 1:00 P.M.
Our Valentine party in second grade is Monday, February 14, at 2:00 P.M.

3rd Grade Achievement Words

Each week I will be posting a list of 5 words that could possibly be on the 3rd grade achievement. Your child will be taking the achievement test next fall and spring. I am posting 5 at a time. Chances are your child has already been introduced to these words, but reviewing them will be a plus.

Tomorrow's special

I accidentally left P.E. on the Friday special on the 2-M News for this week. That is incorrect. Our special for tomorrow is Guidance with Mrs. Glandon.

No Awards Assembly

Dear Parents,
Due to all of our nasty weather we have had in the last few weeks we will not be having an awards assembly for the second nine weeks. We are passing out the awards for perfect attendance, all A's and B's, and All A's for the 2nd nine weeks in our classrooms.

Spelling tests will be Thursday and Friday.
**Also, P-T conferences will be held tomorrow from 4-8.

Grade Cards-Tomorrow!

Grade Cards will be sent home tomorrow, January 28.

Spelling tests will also be given tomorrow.
**Reading logs are also due each Friday.

Chang in Grading Period

Here is the latest information from the office regarding the change in dates of the current grading period:

The 2nd grading period will end on Thursday, Jan. 20th. Grades are due to be submitted by noon on Monday, Jan. 24th. Grade cards will go home on Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Awards Assemblies will be moved to Thursday, Jan. 27th for grades 2 and 3 and Friday, January 28th for grades 4 and 5. The times of the assemblies will remain the same.

It's Good To Be Back!

Wow! After two snow days in a row it sure is good to be back in a routine!

Our second graders took the reading portion of the ACAP test.
Tomorrow, Friday, January 14, our second graders will take the math portion of the ACAP.

There is talk of extending the nine weeks grading period....when I hear something definite I will pass the information along!

Nine Weeks Testing

On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week our second graders will be taking the reading and math nine weeks' tests. Tuesday's test is devoted to reading and Wednesday's test is devoted to math. If any make-ups need to be conducted, or if a student needs more time, we will do that on Thursday.

Let's hope the snowstorm doesn't hit!

9 Weeks Testing

Next week (January 10-14) we will be giving our 9 weeks test in reading and math. Our second graders will take the reading test on Tuesday and the math test on Wednesday. We will conduct any make-up tests on Thursday.

No spelling next week!

The end of the nine weeks is next Friday the 14th.

FYI: The next 2nd grade Awards Assembly is on Tuesday, January 25, at 2:15 p.m.

I was extremely proud of the reading class today in how well they performed on their spelling test. Good job kids!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

I hope this new year finds you healthy and looking forward to setting new goals for yourself! I have a few personal goals myself....one is to read the entire "Harry Potter" book series this year! I love the movies and am now ready to read the books!

We bundled up and went outside this morning for 15 minutes of fresh air and good exercise. It was beautiful!
